mobile movie-making
So Hitchcock never shot a film on his mobile phone. So what? It shoots video, it records sound - there's no reason why you can't make a film with it. But there are a few tricks and techniques to bear in mind, to get the most from your mobile.
small screen, big screen
Just because you're filming it on a small screen, doesn't mean that's how it's always going to be seen. So don't let it limit your ambition - think big.
in the frame
Remember, even though your mobile can take decent shots, it's not an all-singing, all-dancing movie camera. Avoid wide shots, and try and keep your characters close, in the centre of the screen.
steady as you go
Nothing looks worse than a jerky shot. So when you're shooting, make sure you're resting on something solid, and keep it steady.
pan-tastic
Mobile phones don't shoot as many frames per second as movie cameras. This means that, if you do a quick pan, the image is going to come out all jerky. If you use pans, take them nice and slow and smooth.
break the rules
Hey, you're already using a mobile to shoot a movie. Why not go the whole way and do it all differently? Shoot from your bike, strap your mobile to your rollerblades, tie it to a helium balloon for overhead shots. You're the director, so you can do what you want.
It's easy to get your film onto the computer using Bluetooth, or the supplied USB cable. If you have any trouble uploading your film, take a look at your phone's user manual.
