In November 2005, 3,000 of our employees voted to make Sense, the national charity for people who are both deaf and blind, our charity partner.

There are 27,000 deaf-blind people (those with a combination of both sight and hearing difficulties) in the UK today, with another 250,000 experiencing some degree of dual sensory impairment. Sense and Orange are working together to provide advice, opportunities and support for deaf-blind people, their families, carers and professionals in the UK.

In less than two years our employees have raised over £400,000 for Sense. Eleven Orange employees ran the 2007 London Marathon in aid of Sense, raising nearly £12,000 between them. We also make a £5 donation to Sense on behalf of every employee who recycles their mobile phone.

In the run-up to Christmas 2006, phone charms and the wind-up toys used in our Christmas advertising campaign were sold in Orange shops in aid of Sense. With over 100,000 toys released into over 340 stores, Sense benefited from both extra funds and increased awareness of its activities. Charitable contributions from our customers for the toys totalled over £60,000.
