We share public concern about climate change. To reduce the amount of energy we use, the Carbon Trust helped us examine where we could be more efficient. In 2005 we gained Carbon Trust Energy Efficiency Accreditation for sound energy management in our offices and call centres.

A significant portion of the energy we need is to power the transmitters, switching centres and cooling systems of our mobile network. We have invested in the development of dispersed electricity generation from renewable and low impact sources. In Elan, Wales, we have installed a wind- and solar-powered transmitter mast. We know that our network accounts for approximately 70% of our total energy use and we are working towards ensuring more of our grid-supplied electricity comes from non-fossil fuel sources.
