responsible delivery of our services

As part of our commitment to ensuring that customers are well-informed and protected, we've worked with other mobile operators to develop guidelines for the development and delivery of mobile and Internet services. These guidelines set out what you can expect from us.

code of practice for mobile content

In 2004 Orange and other mobile operators signed up to a code of practice designed to enable the responsible use of new mobile phone services while safeguarding children from unsuitable content. For example, Orange pay as you go mobiles are supplied with an Orange safeguard in place that prevents the viewing of content rated suitable only for users over 18 years of age. This safeguard can only be removed on proof of age.

code of practice for location-based services

The mobile industry code of practice on the provision of location-based services is designed to ensure customers are provided with safeguards. These safeguards include specifying the need for consent, text message reminders and an easy way to terminate services.

other consumer codes of practice

We follow consumer codes of practice that aim to give you clear information and ensure that you always understand the services we provide.

Orange is also represented on the Home Office Task Force for the Protection of Children on the Internet (HOTF), which aims to keep children safe by developing guidelines and public awareness campaigns. We contributed to the development of guidelines on moderating chat rooms and how to search safely, and are currently working on guidance for user-generated and social networking services.

We're a member of the Department for Children, Schools and Families' Cyberbullying taskforce and are working with government, industry and charities to help increase awareness of how to prevent and respond to incidents of bullying using information and communications technology.
