general

What is corporate responsibility?

Corporate responsibility is about making sure we act in a responsible way in everything we do and with everybody we work with. This includes our customers, employees, the environment and our local communities.

How does Orange deal with corporate responsibility?

Our corporate responsibility strategy is called Our Responsibilities. It covers four main areas:

  • our customers
  • our employees
  • the environment
  • our communities

You can find out more by reading the page on Our Responsibilities.

What's Orange doing to make sure young people are safe when they're online?

We run all sorts of activities to make young people aware of the potential dangers of being online.

We train our employees to go into schools to talk about e-safety, and we've written education packs on it, too. Over half of all UK secondary schools are using these packs, and we're working hard to make sure that more schools get involved.

We also run our own moderated teen chat rooms, so that young people have somewhere safe to enjoy chatting. And we´ve written guides for parents about online safety, too. Take a look at our protect page and educate page to find out more.

What's Orange doing to make sure everyone can use its products and services?

We want Orange to deliver access for all. We´ve launched a new phone, which is easier to hold, use and read, and we offer Braille and large font versions of our help guides and bills. And we have phones with low prices and tariffs, so people on low incomes can afford them too.

Have a look at what else we´re up to on our include page.

How does Orange make sure it sells its products and services in a responsible way?

Honest and straightforward are two of our brand values, and these are carried through into how we deliver messages around our products and services.

Although we also don't market to children under 16, we´re aware that some parents choose to buy our phones and services for their children to use. So we´ve come up with some guidelines to help parents teach their children how to use our phones, intranet and other services safely.

people

What does Orange do to keep employees happy?

We want our employees to be happy and satisfied. To make sure they are, we run a survey every year to hear their opinions, using their answers to make real changes.

We also say a big thank-you to our employees by taking time to mark their special occasions and giving them lots of perks. And we give out 'Brilliant' awards to people who´ve gone above and beyond in their day-to-day job.

Have a look at all this in more detail on our team Orange page.

All of our employees are entitled to a day off for volunteering, and we encourage and support their fundraising efforts. You can find out more about our charity activity and how our people get involved on the community pages.

How do I apply to work for Orange?

We have our own careers website, so take a look there for any vacancies.

Is Orange a diverse organisation?

Yes, we are. We recognise and respect people from all walks of life, both in the workplace and out of it. We also run activities in areas where we want to give a little extra support, and we have our own advice group run by our employees with disabilities.

For example, because women are under-represented in our IT&N function, we're trying to change this by inviting young women to come in for the day to shadow our senior IT&N female members, giving them a taste of what their future might be.

We're also a member of lots of organisations that help us promote diversity. You can find out more on our diversity page.

What is Orange doing to reduce its carbon footprint?

In 2008, our carbon footprint was around 120,000 tonnes. We weren't satisfied with this, so we're doing lots to reduce it. Find out more climate change pages.

We've also made all sorts of changes to reduce the amount of resources we use. For example, we've started printing mini SIMs, saving huge amounts of plastic.

We now put all Orange customers on e-billing unless they ask us not to, which saves on paper and costs. We also recycle phones, and are supporting a new European initiative to develop one charger to fit all phones. There´s more information on this and our other initiatives on our resource use pages.

How do I recycle my phone?

You can recycle your phone by popping into any Orange shop and recycling it through our Recycle and Reward scheme. You hand in your old phone, we check how much it's worth and then we send you a cheque. Just ask one of our staff and they´ll be happy to help.

community

Which charities does Orange support?

We have lots of charity partners that we support through Orange Community, our charity partnership programme.

Among the charities we support are the Alzheimer's Society, the NSPCC, the Samaritans and Barnardo´s. We chose these charities because we think they´re really worthwhile, and they fit with our broader responsibilities of protection and inclusion.

We support national charities too, and UNICEF is our global charity partner. We also support lots of community projects through the Orange Foundation. Take a look at our people power page to find the full list of charities we support and the ways we´re working with them.

Can my charity apply to Orange for funding?

Not at the moment. We already support a number of charities through our Orange Community partnerships programme and we´re not looking for any more right now.

Where can I find information about phone masts?

We have a whole section dedicated to phone masts. Visit our phone mast website to find out more about the health, science and technology behind them.
