People Power

To us, giving back to the community means more than giving money – although that´s one way we help. It means getting personally involved – using our time, products and services and 12,000 employees to transform people´s lives. And we work with a number of local, national and global charity partners to do it.

It´s all part of our Orange Community programme. It works on three levels. Click on each link to read more:

  • local: working hand-in-hand with our eight local charity partners
  • national: supporting UK-wide charities and events like Comic Relief and Children in Need
  • global: partnering with UNICEF to bring help to other parts of the world

giving money

Donating and fundraising are still two of the biggest ways we can help. We have lots of charity partners who we give financial grants to and regularly fundraise for. And we support big fundraising events like Sports Relief and Children in Need.

giving time

Every one of our employees can take one paid day a year off to volunteer for one of our charity partners. Last year our employees gave hundreds of hours, getting involved in things like helping out at Barnardo´s Big Toddles, clearing gardens with Groundwork and running Tea Days with the Alzheimer´s Society.

But it´s not just about giving our time; it´s about sharing our skills. So we work with our charity partners to find ways of doing this. Last year, for example, we worked with Crisis to run CV and interview workshops, where our employees spent a day working one-on-one with homeless people.

beyond money and time

We can use our knowledge, partnerships and services to make a difference, too. When the earthquake struck Haiti we set up a text appeal for UNICEF and contacted our customers asking for their help (we raised over £600k). And for the first six weeks we didn´t charge customers for calls to family and loved ones in Haiti.

We help by doing things like offering free advertising space on our web portal for our charity partners´ appeals. We worked with one of our charity partners, Leonard Cheshire Disability and their Ability Media centre, on a film to raise awareness of different disabilities.

We also give 100% of all text donations to our own charity partners and we pass on 90% of all text donations for all other charities, between the values of 15p and £10.

We´re ready to share with our partners whatever we can.
