Protect

Enabling people to communicate and access information is what we do. But it´s also our responsibility to give them the tools to enable them to enjoy it safely, from blocking and filtering out inappropriate content to protecting their personal data.

keeping you and your family safe

We have virus protection and spam filters on our email service and all of our broadband packages come with McAfee Privacy Service. This service can be downloaded for free online, and includes parental controls and personal data protection.

If you do get any emails or text messages that you think could be spam, it´s best not to reply. You can find out more about this and other ways to make sure you´re staying safe on the web here.

protecting your privacy

These days, your phone can recommend things like shops, restaurants and taxis based on your exact location. But we understand that not everyone wants that. That´s why we have a Code of Practice on these kinds of location-based services, giving our customers the chance to choose for themselves.

We also have a free, dedicated number for our customers to report unwanted calls. You can talk to our Malicious Calls Bureau on 150 if you are on a contract or 450 if you use pay as you go.

protecting young people

With more and more young people using text and social networking sites like Facebook to keep in touch, we´re working even harder to keep them safe from bullying, abuse and inappropriate content. We´ve created a dedicated website to provide parents and young people with tips on how to stay safe online.

Our phones come with our parental control software, Orange Safeguard, which blocks adult websites and content. We put it on all of our pay as you go phones by default, and it´s available on all our contract phones on request. We don´t sell contract phones to under 18s, but if you are a parent who is taking out a contract for your child, make sure you call us to get Orange Safeguard switched on.

And we´re doing lots to educate young people and parents on how they can enjoy mobiles and the internet in a safe way. We do this through engaging films and by offering teachers lesson plans and activities to get the discussion and debate going. To find out more, have a look at our educate pages or go to our dedicated education site.

working with the government

We also work with the government and are part of a number of forums that focus on working together as an industry to help our customers stay safe online One of these is the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), which brings organisations together to make the digital world a safer place for children.

And the second is the Department for Children, Schools and Families´ Cyberbullying taskforce, which helps raise awareness of how to prevent and respond to bullying on the internet or by text.
