where does radio come from?
Radio waves are a natural form of energy similar to visible light. Natural radio fields surround us and are powerfully generated by the sun and stars. Large amounts of radio energy are also created by lightning. This is why radios and TVs suffer interference when thunder and lightning pass close by.

In the far north, the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are another strong source of natural radio waves. They can cause a crackling and fizzing noise on radios.
