Brighton

Brighton has a reputation as a party town, but what's it like to work here? Well, those in the creative and digital media businesses will find a rapidly expanding industry. Brighton & Hove hosts approximately 1,500 businesses in the creative industries, employing 16,000 people between them. Because of this, the Brighton & Hove area is sometimes referred to as ‘Silicon Beach’.

With our FlexiTown research revealing that currently only 15% of its population is able to work flexibly, it seems as likely that you'll find Brighton's residents in the office as on the beach.

Brighton is small in comparison to the UK’s other major cities, with a population of just over 150,000, and it’s also one of the youngest – having only been awarded city status in 2000.

Brighton has become a mecca for those looking to escape the confines of London, especially for young, single adults attracted to its booming nightlife and diverse shopping experience. Over 40% of its population is aged between 20 – 44 and nearly 45% have never been married, compared to a national average of 30%. The beach is a big attraction and during the summer Brighton attracts around 8.5 million visitors each year, filling its pebbled beach with deckchairs.
