London

Given its attraction as a hub for business and some of the best entertainment in the world, London’s population could face a 40% increase according to our Connected Britain research. Current residents are also happy to stay put - 36% of respondents are happy where they are and wouldn’t move even if universal connectivity gave them the option to live and work anywhere. Just under half (43%) of those we asked are able to work flexibly and 87% could see the attraction of it, as fast internet access starts to make working from anywhere increasingly possible.

London is considered by many to be the capital of world business and culture. The City of London (or the square mile) is at the heart of the world’s financial markets, while Soho is host to entertainment and media companies from around the world. One fifth of the 4.6 million jobs in London are filled by people who live outside of the capital.

London is also home to some of the UK’s quirkiest attractions. The Horniman Museum ranks as one of the UK’s finest with its huge (over) stuffed walrus and where else in Britain could you get a walk-in backrub? The Chelsea Physic Garden is one of the capital’s loveliest outdoor spots and you can enjoy authentic pie n’ mash at Manzes afterwards. Or take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and make a phone call from London’s first red phonebox at the Royal Academy.
