Wales
Whether it’s the delights of the valleys or the hustle and bustle of its capital city that attracts you, Wales has a lot to offer. Our FlexiTown research found that Cardiff is the second most flexible city in the country with 30% of employers offering their staff some kind of flexible working. This adaptable approach, combined with 750 miles of coastline and a less frenetic approach to life, means that Wales could see a 5% growth in population numbers in the future.
Wales has a strong history with wireless working. The world’s first wireless transmission took place here and the communications industry (along with transport and storage) accounts for 6% of Wales’ gross domestic product (GDP).
Our Connected Britain research found that IT and telecom companies in the UK are the most forward thinking at providing technology to support flexible workers, with 75% of employees being provided with laptops and 55% with mobile phones.
There’s more good news on the employment front. A planned £12 billion scheme for a Defence Technical College at St Athan is the biggest single investment ever made in Wales and is estimated to create around 6,000 jobs.
