Yorkshire & Humber

Our FlexiTown research shows Yorkshire folks are very forward thinking. Sheffield is currently the most flexible city in the UK, with the highest proportion of flexible workers at 32%. Leeds also features highly with 21% of its employees able to take advantage of working outside of the traditional office environment. South Yorkshire will also be the first region to benefit from high-speed broadband.

Yorkshire is the largest county in England and has a historic rivalry with its western neighbour Lancashire, which goes all the way back to the Wars of the Roses in 1455. Leeds is the capital city for the region and also the financial capital of the North of England. The region remains a major centre for metals engineering as well as being a rapidly growing hub for new industries such as media, technology and environmental technology. The region is also the nation’s food capital with more food related businesses based here than anywhere else.

Yorkshire folks (or ‘tykes’ as they are known locally) are exceptionally proud of their heritage. Yorkshire is the only county in the UK with its own special day and locals refer to the county as ‘God’s own
country’ so think twice before making that joke about flat caps,
whippets or brass bands!
