‘Spam’ describes any unwanted marketing message you receive on your mobile. From claiming you’ve won a mystery prize, to telling you someone fancies you and asking you to call a premium rate number, spam comes in lots of different guises.

Spam is the mobile equivalent of junk mail. It’s irritating and can cause problems. Children particularly are vulnerable to the marketing messages of spam, as they don’t always understand the cost or implications of services being offered.

Sometimes your number will have been randomly generated, sometimes it will have been illegitimately compiled and sold on to companies as part of a ‘marketing list’.

The problem affects all mobile networks, not just Orange. Orange doesn’t give out customer numbers to other companies for marketing purposes.
